Richmond Daytripping

 Richmond Daytripping

Welcome to the April blog for Bimmer Rescue! We hope you are healthy and doing well this far into 2021! With spring in bloom, vaccines rolling out steadily, and stimulus checks out again, folks who may have missed out on a break for March may be looking for road trips they can take.  But given that COVID-19 is still an issue despite these factors, some people may prefer being close to the shelter of home when they need it. The Richmond-Times Dispatch had plenty of ideas for great getaways close to home. Looking over their many suggestions, we boiled these down to five of our favorites day-trip destinations in the Richmond area: Shenandoah Caverns - currently open for visitors, the caverns are beautiful, formed millions of years ago in ribbon formations that most visitors liken to bacon strips. The surrounding site is a thriving tourist community of shops and Americana. The site hosts weddings and events, but most of their special events have been canceled until ... read more

Spring Preparation to Keep Your Bimmer Beaming

Spring Preparation to Keep Your Bimmer Beaming

Welcome to your March blog! And how about a welcome for the coming of Spring, which begins at the equinox on March 20th? A March Spring is the time of  ‘out with the old, in with the new’ all over the Northern Hemisphere. Do you and your family have any annual spring cleaning rituals? At Bimmer Rescue, we want to challenge you to extend that house clean-up to your BMW. It’s a gorgeous, luxurious machine, and even if you have used your BMW less this year, it deserves a little TLC. We recommend the following course of clean-up: A complete clean. A full car wash and wax, with a vacuuming of the car’s cabin and engine. Detailing. A full wipe down with a powerful cleaner to remove any potential COVID-19 germs as well as anything else festering. Anything that doesn’t have an organized spot in the car should be removed. Minor dents and scratches. If your BMW has been knocked around a bit-- people opening ... read more

Planning For the New Year

Planning For the New Year

Welcome to December! It’s a time for holiday plans, for making merry, and for seeing out a very awful year and welcoming a new one. 2020 gave us pandemic, political polarization, job loss and homelessness, illness and death, a contested election, and gave back very little in return! 2021 currently has many of the same worries for us as 2020 did. We’re still in the midst of pandemic, until a vaccine materializes and even the poorest among us has it. Until that moment, we’re still in danger from COVID19. And the economy looks like we’re headed for a recession unless something changes soon. When we plan for 2021, we need to plan for the things we know we can count on. You can’t count on a big graduation ceremony if you’re a student. You can’t count on your wedding happening if it’s a big one with a lot of guests and suppliers. We have to do what we can to downsize if we want to survive. But we’re human beings. We owe it to ourselves ... read more

Gratitude For Our Cars

Gratitude For Our Cars

With November approaching, despite the hardships of the past year, it’s important to recognize that we’ve survived, and to give thanks for that. As we gather together for Thanksgiving at the end of the month, perhaps it’s a good time to give praise to that family member that we rely on too readily and credit too little: our cars. You can’t give your BMW a slice of pumpkin pie or the drumstick, or even a place at the table, but you can show a little more love to your car in the year ahead. Here’s a list of ideas to show your BMW the love over the next year: Keep it clean inside and out. Dirt inside your BMW is unhealthy for you, and dirt n the outside of your BMW can get caught in your car’s systems, choking them. Also, a clean car is a happier driver… and you are less anxious to protect a car that you think of as dirty. Clean car = safer car. Protect the interior. If your BMW has a leather interior, it&rsqu ... read more

Community Outreach: Making a Difference

Community Outreach: Making a Difference

A community is more than just a diverse group of people. It’s families and it’s also strangers who trust each other to do right by each other... an ecosystem of justice and an economic system of interdependence and reliance.  We can’t claim to know everyone around us, but the more we know each other, the more we strengthen the bonds of community. By promoting organizations that add good things to our community, we create a better society for Richmond, Short Pump, The West End, and The Fan District.  Supporting each other is supporting ourselves. That’s why Bimmer Rescue has a community outreach program: we want to feed back into our community and help it grow, knowing that we will grow with it, and be enriched by it with better lives and a happier standard of living. Here are some of the community outreach programs that Bimmer Rescue takes part in: Richmond Arts Scene Did you know that we host a family-friendly art opening at Bimm ... read more

What is Automotive Endurance Racing?

Have you heard of Automotive Endurance Racing? Here at Bimmer Rescue, it’s our passion. Many people also call it LeMons Racing, and it’s a lot of fun. Automotive Endurance Racing is when you take an old beater car and you race it for 24 hours. Automotive Endurance Racing is a lot more affordable than traditional car racing and we’d like to think it’s a lot of fun. They’re lemons, after all. Here’s a video that explains the sport: But why are the folks at Bimmer Rescue so passionate about Automotive Endurance Racing? For one, it allows our gearhead crew to have fun modifying our old-model BMWs. For another, its a team effort where we all get together and take turns racing the cars. It’s an amateur sport, but we absolutely love it! Now that you know what Automotive Endurance Racing is, here are three reasons why YOU can benefit from Bimmer Rescue’s passion:  It gives our crew the opportunity to dive more deeply into automotive tech ... read more

The History of the MINI

Before we begin discussing the history of the Mini Cooper -- which is a long, storied history -- we want you to know that Bimmer Rescue specializes in working on newer MINIs. As much as we adore the look and feel of the classics, we are not the old car shop. We’re the shop you come to when your newer car runs out of warranty. We love working on modern, cutting edge cars, and our sweet spot is when we service and repair MINIs, BMWs, and Audis that are between three to 12 years of age. Okay, now onto our regularly scheduled blog… At Bimmer Rescue, we absolutely love the Mini Coopers! They’re fun. They look really cool. They’re the adult-sized go-kart. They reflect the individualized personalities of their owners. They are terrific cars and can last a long time when you consistently service them. But the reason we love them so much is because of their origin story. We admit, we were going to write a long essay recounting the milestones (pun intended) that MINI ... read more

The Value of a Vehicle Health Check

The Value of a Vehicle Health Check

When it comes to knowing the health of your car, a VHC or Vehicle Health Check is just what you might want to have performed. This visual inspection can put your mind at ease, whether your car is safe to drive or in need of serious work. These simple visual inspections performed by a professional who follows a checklist use a traffic light system. This means that you will have a checklist with Green, Amber, and Red items. Green means you are good to go, Amber means there is recommended work to be performed, and Red means that your vehicle needs urgent attention. Every time you have a VHC performed, no actual work is performed without your permission, and nothing on your car is disassembled.  It is standard for Brakes, tires, lights, fluid levels, exhaust, steering, suspension, and electrical items on your car to be inspected. This all comes delivered in a checkpoint report. If anything comes back in yellow or red, your service writer will explain what the mechanic found and what ... read more
