RICHMOND GERMAN AUTO REPAIR

What German Car Maintenance Is Important for Summertime?

With summer approaching, it’s time to get your German vehicle ready for the hotter season. Join clients from Richmond, Short Pump, The West End, and The Fan District who choose the auto mechanics at Bimmer Rescue for auto repair services. Just because the frigid temperatures have disappeared, it doesn’t mean your car’s prepared for the elements. Extreme heat can be just as damaging as the harsh cold. Luckily, with a bit of preparation, you can be sure your vehicle is running smoothly and safely all summer. Here are some helpful auto repair tips from the team at Bimmer rescue to prepare you and your car for the warmer days and nights.

  • Check your oil: Oil keeps your engine lubricated, which lessens friction and heat buildup under your hood. Your engine is more likely to overheat in the summer, so it's going to be in need of lubrication. It's best to get an oil change every 5,000 miles or so. While you're at it, check all your fluids to prevent your car from overheating.

  • Inspect your tires: As outdoor temperatures vacillate, so does tire pressure. Colder temperature weather can pull a number on your tires. Make sure they're inflated well because poorly inflated tires can affect how your vehicle handles the roads. When tires are underinflated, they wear down faster and takes a toll on the gas mileage. Low pressure and heat can even cause your tires to blow in extreme cases. Check for wear and tear as hot streets can cause the temperature to increase and make tires weaken.

  • Wash and wax your car: Keeping your vehicle clean and shiny might seem like an unnecessary way to spend money. However, it can save you costs. Dust and dirt can remove your car’s top coat that protects the paint from peeling away. When paint peels, your automobile is susceptible to rust.

  • Check your battery: If you live in cold weather, chances are you've had a dead battery a few times. Heat can cause havoc too. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, and this can cause corrosion.

  • Check air conditioning: It’s wise to find out if your air conditioning needs repair before the temperature becomes uncomfortable. If your vents are blocked or need more Freon, it won't blow that crisp air that makes hot cars bearable.
