Just like humans, cars need fluids too. Without them, both of us die. Or at the minimum leave us with costly medical or auto repair bills. Humans can’t go without fluids for more than 3 or 4 days. If your car lost all of its fluids at the same time, you would simply be out of luck and out of a car. Finito!
Here are the top 8 fluids your vehicle needs to keep on keepin’ on!
Gasoline: The most obvious of the 8. We take this one for granted because it’s a habit to fill up when our fuel light indicator tells us it’s time. Make sure you are using the best quality gasoline for your car and do your best to not let it get too low before every fill up. If for no other reason than you are more likely to run out!
Oil: Without it, your engine doesn’t will seize up, and you will very quickly find yourself broken down with a potentially huge auto repair bill in your hand. Darn it! This is a pretty easy fluid to stay on top of even if you go long periods between oil changes. Check it regularly and stay ahead of possible leaks that have the potential to do severe damage.
Radiator Fluid: This fluid keeps your engine cool. When it runs out, it’s not a good thing. An engine runs extremely hot, and your radiator fluid does the job of keeping your engine from overheating. NEVER check your radiator fluid if your engine is hot. That’s one sure way to earn yourself a trip to the emergency room.
Transmission Fluid: Your transmission has many components, and they all need lubrication. Most cars need transmission fluids changed every 30,000 - 60,000 miles. Without transmission fluid, it can cause significant damage to your entire transmission system.
Power Steering Fluid: Without it, you would be hurled back in time to your first car that quite possibly (if not probably) did not have power steering. We are a wee bit spoiled in these modern times of ours when it comes to turning left and right, not to mention when it comes to parallel parking!
Brake Fluid: No brake fluid means no stopping. If your brake fluid is running low, it’s usually a sign of a leak. This fluid is critical to your safety and should never be put on the backburner to have it looked at if it’s running low or you’ve detected a leak.
Air Conditioning Coolant: Without it, your Richmond summer is going to be unbearable!
Washer Fluid: You need it to see. Along with properly functioning windshield wipers, your washer fluid keeps you clearly looking down the road.
These are the most critical fluids for your car, no matter the make or model. Just like humans, we all need our fluids, and we need them to be clean and clear from debris.
